Rock and glacial till in northern New Jersey behave very differently from the sand of the coastal plain. #78 Crushed Stone offers a washed, angular chip with little to no fines, creating open space for water to move through the layer. It fits drainage work, permeable paver bedding, and walkway or patio base applications where that flow is part of the build.
Treat the site conditions as part of the material choice. Rocky ground may direct water across a surface, while sandy ground can let it disappear quickly, so the intended drainage route still needs to be clear. Under permeable pavers, place #78 Crushed Stone as the bedding course beneath the surface to keep water moving through the stone. It can also surround drainage pipe where a clean, open material is needed around the line.

Common Uses
Permeable Paver Bedding
Use as a setting bed and joint fill in permeable paver systems so water can filter down through the pavers.
Drainage Layers
Use clean chips at retaining walls, foundation edges, and below walkways so water has an open path.
Pipe Bedding
Angular small stone surrounds drain or utility pipe, giving it even support while reducing empty spaces.
Walkway & Patio Base
Create a solid draining layer below walkways, patios, and shed pads. It spreads readily and compacts well.
Why Choose #78 Crushed Stone
Free Draining
Washed chips have few fines, allowing water to move quickly through the layer.
Locks in Place
The angular shape fits together more firmly than rounded gravel, helping the stone remain in place.
Easy to Spread
Small chips are simple to rake and level by hand on tight residential sites.
One Stone, Many Jobs
A single material can handle drainage, pipe bedding, and base tasks in one project.
